Fat Grafting for the Face, Breasts, and Buttocks
Fat grafting is a cosmetic procedure that repurposes your own natural fatty tissue to increase volume and enhance contour in the treated area. What areas can be treated? Virtually any location on the face and body can be addressed, including the lips, cheeks, chin, breasts, and buttocks. Dr. Anthony Wilson, our experienced plastic surgeon, can use this innovative technique alone or in combination with other procedures, including facelift surgery, breast augmentation, and Brazilian butt lift. There are many additional benefits to this versatile method, and Dr. Wilson will discuss what can be accomplished during your initial consultation.

Fat Grafting for the Face
Fat injections can rejuvenate the face by smoothing wrinkles and deep creases and enhancing volume where there is a deficiency due to illness or the natural aging process. Fat grafting can work well alone or in conjunction with a facelift or another cosmetic enhancement procedure. Furthermore, treatment will be customized to suit your unique needs and goals.
It’s important to note, while the fat injection technique itself is minimally invasive, harvesting the fatty tissue is a surgical procedure. Liposuction is used to collect the fatty tissue from a location chosen by you and Dr. Wilson (typically the abdomen, thighs, and/or hips) and then lightly processed to be used as an injectable. Many patients appreciate this step of the treatment, which can be an opportunity to enhance body contour, and they often view it as an additional benefit of the fat grafting process.
Fat grafting in combination with a facelift offers more comprehensive aesthetic enhancement than either procedure alone. Recovery following this treatment tends to be a little longer than facelift without fat grafting, and there may be more swelling. Some patience will be necessary, but the outcome typically offers such exceptional results that patients often report the benefits were well worth the experience.
Fat Grafting for the Breasts
As with the face, fat grafting to enhance the size, symmetry, and/or shape of the breasts will begin with harvesting the fatty tissue using liposuction. Candidates for this procedure will need to have enough fatty tissue available to complete the procedure. If not, patients may be asked to gain a small amount of weight prior to having liposuction performed.
Once collected, the fatty tissue will be minimally processed and injected into a number of sites to achieve the desired outcome. Fat grafting for the breasts is typically used in combination with another procedure, such as breast augmentation or breast reconstruction; however, in some cases it may be possible to obtain the desired result using fat transfer alone. Following treatment, Dr. Wilson will provide instructions on properly caring for your breasts while they heal. In many cases, you should not wear tight or constricting bras or other clothing, as this can cause the fatty tissue to be displaced or re-absorbed. Some volume loss will occur after surgery, and the amount can vary from person to person. If needed, a second fat transfer can be performed to enhance the outcome.
Fat Grafting for the Buttocks – Brazilian Butt Lift
Fat grafting for the buttocks, also known as a Brazilian butt lift, is a way to enhance the size and shape of your derriere without the need for artificial products or implants. This process is very similar to facial and breast fat transfer: fatty tissue will be collected via liposuction, processed, and delivered into the desired area using injections. The donor site can involve one or more areas where you wish to enhance your body contour. Depending on your cosmetic goals, Dr. Wilson may recommend some options, such as the hips and flanks, which can be sculpted to further improve the outcome of your procedure.
During the healing process, you should be careful to avoid sitting for prolonged periods. Pressure on the newly transferred fat can cause it to shift or be re-absorbed. Dr. Wilson will provide additional instructions during your initial consultation.
Recovery Following Fat Grafting
Most patients experience minimal pain following the fat transfer procedure. In many cases, the discomfort will arise more from the fat-harvesting treatment than from the grafting, and we will provide medication to manage these effects. Swelling and bruising in the treated area and the harvest area are normal, and these symptoms should fade with time. Volume loss will also occur, and Dr. Wilson will take this response into account when developing the initial treatment plan. Your experience may vary, as every patient’s needs and desired outcome are unique.
