You use your hands every day for work, play, and other activities. If you suffered an injury to one or both of your hands, Dr. Zeff may be able to help restore mobility, reduce pain, and return you to normal function. Our skilled surgeon can address a wide array of traumatic issues affecting the hands, and he will evaluate your condition and provide a customized treatment plan with your needs in mind.
Carpal Tunnel Release
One of the most common disorders to affect the hand, carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist, which can lead to pain, tingling, weakness, and other symptoms. Carpal tunnel release is a surgical procedure in which the carpal tunnel, located in the wrist, is expanded in size or the carpal ligament is released (cut) to reduce pressure on the nerve. This ligament should grow back in such a way as to allow more room for the nerve to move.
Some of the most common facial injuries are fractures and lacerations. These conditions can mar the appearance of the face, causing the patient to feel self-conscious, and they can also inhibit the ability to make expressions, impair vision, or reduce oral function. Dr. Zeff can help to repair fractures that were not properly set after the injury or address tissue that healed improperly or not at all. Similarly, in treating lacerations he will seek to reduce the impact on the nerves and minimize the size and visibility of the scar.
A broken nose, a genetic predisposition to a deviated septum, or another concern can make breathing difficult and alter the appearance of the face as a whole. To enhance nasal function and improve facial aesthetics, Dr. Zeff can utilize a combination of septoplasty and rhinoplasty, as needed, to address these issues. Nose surgery requires a great deal of skill, and our extensively trained surgeon has the expertise and the artistic eye to help you achieve your desired outcome.
A hernia is a condition in which an organ, often an intestine, pushes through an opening in the muscle or tissue containing it. Many hernias occur in the abdomen, but this concern can also develop in the groin, belly button, diaphragm, and even the upper thigh. Hernias that are getting bigger or causing discomfort typically require surgery. The technique used will depend on the type of hernia and the patient’s unique needs. In most cases, the organ will be placed back into its appropriate position, and the hole through which it pushed will be repaired, usually with a surgical mesh patch.
Cranioplasty is a type of surgery designed to repair or reshape irregularities and defects in the skull. In adults, this procedure is often utilized to address problems stemming from an injury or a previous surgery where the brain may be vulnerable to damage or if the individual experiences severe headaches due to trauma. Additionally, if there is a concern about neurological function or aesthetics, cranioplasty may be recommended. Depending on the situation, existing skull bone or a graft made from another material may be used to address the concern.
More than a simple cosmetic concern, overly large breasts can cause emotional and physical discomfort and reduce a patient’s quality of life. If you are experiencing pain in your shoulders and back due to your breast size, and/or if you find yourself unable to perform certain activities or wear the clothes you want as a result of the size of your breasts, Dr. Zeff may be able to help by performing a breast reduction.
Following a lumpectomy or mastectomy, breast reconstruction can help to restore the breast with beautiful, natural-looking results. Dr. Zeff utilizes many of the leading techniques, such as fat grafting, to provide an optimal outcome. The right approach for you will depend on many factors, and we will customize the procedure to best suit your needs and goals.
Wounds caused by trauma (such as a burn), complications from diabetes, or another disease or concern can often be addressed using skin grafts—pieces of healthy tissue taken from another part of the patient’s body. Skin grafts are designed to cover the affected area and provide the best possible match to blend in with the surrounding tissue. There are a wide variety of skin graft types that can be used, and Dr. Zeff will discuss the best option for your specific anatomic needs.
Skin Cancer Reconstruction/Mohs Reconstruction
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer. Mohs micrographic surgery, an innovative tissue-sparing procedure, is considered to be one of the best methods for addressing this disease. However, even patients who undergo this type of treatment may have the need for a reconstructive procedure. Skin cancer reconstruction is designed to repair the areas that had tissue removed, particularly in sensitive regions of the face like the nose, forehead, ears, and eyelids. Dr. Zeff will evaluate your areas of concern and develop a customized treatment plan in an effort to restore your appearance.
