Which Wrinkle Relaxing Injectable is Right for Me?
When it comes to wrinkle relaxing injections, Richard Zeff, MD offers three effective products—BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Jeuveau™. All of these injectables use the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, to temporarily prevent treated muscles from contracting and creating expression lines. While these products are similar, there are different reasons why one injectable my be a more suitable fit for you than another.
To help you learn more about each wrinkle relaxing option, we have summarized some of the main points about each product. All of these differences are variable and may be quite different with different individuals:
BOTOX Cosmetic is the most popular and versatile wrinkle relaxing injectable available. It can be used for treatment of mild to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and more. The effects of BOTOX Cosmetic generally take three to five days to develop and can usually last for three to four months.
While very similar to BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport can be more suitable for treating larger areas (such as the forehead) and more effective in diminishing moderate to severe wrinkles. For patients who have a hard time achieving the results they desire with BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport can sometimes be a wonderful alternative. Furthermore, the results of Dysport may become visible sooner—typically within two to three days following treatment.
Jeuveau is the newest product of the three. It is FDA-approved for moderate to severe wrinkles and creases between the eyebrows. The manufacturer of Jeuveau claims that the highly-purified botulinum toxin used in the product may make it more effective for smoothing deeper dynamic wrinkles. The results achieved with Jeuveau generally last three to four months.
